US artistic gymnastics fans just received the happy news of Gabby Douglas making a comeback to elite gymnastics after seven excruciating years. Douglas was last seen at the 2016 Rio Olympics before taking a long hiatus because of her mental health issues.

However, she has now returned with full vigor and is ready to take on the challenges of the Olympic year. Interestingly, a new social media post showcases Gabby Douglas openly declaring her true feelings about her return.

Sharing a reel to Instagram, Gabby Douglas wrote, “Wow guys, what a journey so far. it’s had its ups and downs, but I’m not done pushing the boundaries. I’m determined to make every moment count! SO happy to get back out on the competition floor and enjoy this sport that I fell in love with as a little girl. here’s to never giving up on our dreams. let’s do this✨”

Gabby Douglas will participate in the upcoming Winter Cup as her first contest after her long hiatus. That means fans can see her as early as on 23 February 2024 in Louisville, Kentucky. Douglas appeared on the Hallie Jackson NOW show for an interview after news of her comeback was out.

Jackson asked Gabby Douglas what separates now from all the previous occasions when she could return. Answering the question, the 3x Olympic gold medalist said, “I was watching the 2022 championships. I was like, ‘man, I miss competing. And I was trying to figure out … I’m still a competitor at heart.” Elsewhere in the interview, Douglas was also asked if she was fit enough to compete.

Is Gabby Douglas still fit to compete at 28 years of age?

Gymnastics is a very physically demanding sport and sees several gymnasts reach and drop from their peaks at very young ages. At 28, Gabby Douglass will be the oldest gymnast on the Team USA roster if she qualifies for Paris. Answering Jackson’s question, Gabby Douglas said, “Honestly, I’m just super grateful for my body to be able to hold up this board.”

Gabby Douglas also noted, “And I’ve been doing a lot of recovery, a lot of things with what goes into my body. And it’s honestly helped me out very much. And I think I love it. I love pushing myself to the limit. And I think when you love something when you love your craft and you’re willing to work for your craft, then it’ll work for you.”
