Eyeing for the Paris Olympic 2024 berth, Sunisa ‘Suni’ Lee has been dropping hints about her appearance on the mat over the last few months. Previously, an Instagram post captured her effervescence, signaling Suni Lee’s legendary whirligig. If that hinted at a presence of smoke, then a recent clip from the first week of this month indicated the fire.

In that week, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics champion gymnast enjoyed a thorough time, shedding sweat in the US national training camp. At the same time, Suni Lee performed her proverbial beam exercise, flouting any injury scare. That sealed her appearance probability in a near contention. But still returning from a half-year absence doesn’t seem to be a walk in the park. However, dismounting any if-buts, the USA Gymnastics came with a certain curtain-raiser.

In a shocking reversal of news, the USA Gymnastics’ IG handle informed about Suni Lee’s participation chance in the upcoming Winter Cup contest of gymnastics. Previously, in the released list of senior participants, the Tokyo Olympic champion’s name was not in the discussion. But today, the IG handle shared, “@sunisalee is headed to Louisville. The reigning Olympic all-around champion is now registered to compete at #WinterCup!” in its latest story

Meanwhile, the gymnastic affair is all set to take place on February 23 and 24. Being a senior gymnast, Suni Lee will appear on the floor on February 24. But as of now, there are still question marks on the participation chance of Suni Lee’s mate on the beam, Simone Biles. The 26-year-old gymnast didn’t clarify anything on this topic. However, Suni might not let go of the chance she earned after a long gap. Eventually, the Winter Cup berth might become a prized earning for her.

The road to the Paris Olympics for the gymnast

A complicated kidney disease kept Suni Lee out of all the spearheading tournaments last year. A budding weight gain also kept her away from indulging in the practice regime. But without losing hope, the former world championship medalist claimed “…I just do basics and try and stay as safe as possible.’’. Eventually, in selecting her battles, Suni Lee followed a stringent procedure as she was defiant in taking her battle to the deep. On that argument, last year the reigning Olympic champion opted out of the US world selection.

Last year, her stint with Auburn University’s NCAA turf faced a stumble as well due to the ailing kidney issue. So in the Olympic year, Suni could only aim for a major title to rouse her Olympic berth once again. In that POV, the Winter Cup 2024 is going to be the gymnast’s first turnaround.
