The Winter Cup somewhat eclipsed the NCAA Gymnastics seventh week’s Big Ten and Michigan was able to win easily despite deliberately resting top rivals. After a great all-around performance delivery the week before, Team USA’s Paul Juda decided to take a breather and later withdrew from the Winter Cup. Unexpectedly, Fred Richard triumphantly returned to the mats, displaying his elegance.

After a strong 2022 NCAA season, Juda compromised on his Olympic dreams due to injuries. Now that the Winter Cup is out of the picture for the same reason, Juda is focusing on his additional duties at Michigan. Before the Winter Cup 2024 exit, Neutral Deductions posted an interview with Juda and said, “I’m just trying to help Fred become what you know Cameron helped me…trying to be that older brother for him.”

Juda continued to talk about their special bond, saying, “Yeah, Fred and I are just, it’s great to have each other.” We rely on one another; “we are becoming very close and aware of the highs and lows we experience together.” Fred Richard performed several routines in week seven of the NCAA Gymnastics: He received a great score of 13.950 for sticking his pommel horse dismount on rings, which put him in second position.

With a faultless vault, Richard maintained his winning streak, taking home a 14.900 and winning the contest. On the high bar, the Michigan gymnast finished the competition well, scoring 14.450 and sticking his dismount. On the other hand, Paul Juda took it easy following his incredible 86.2 all-around performance the week before. The gymnastics lineup is jam-packed, and who will take the first lead to victory remains a mystery.

Michigan’s Winter Cup prospects

There will be excitement in the Winter Cup next week as Michigan sends a strong team, including Rithik Puri, Javier Alfonso, and Landen Blixt. Solen Chiodi, a potential Wolverine, and Cameron Bock, a past star, will participate in the senior sessions.
