As the 2024 Gymnastics National Championship approaches, the colleges on the roster are girded up to clinch the NCAA trophy. For men’s gymnastics fold, the reigning NCAA champions, Stanford Cardinals are among the favorites as they lifted the 2023 NCAA trophy with a total score of 422.458. Interestingly, Stanford colleagues Khoi Young and Ian Gunther spearheaded the team toward glory with absolute finesse. Now, as the Cardinals are all set to kick start their 2024 season, Young and Gunther pulled off the curtains from their behind-the-scenes training sessions.

Khoi Young and Ian Gunther recreate the high bar fiasco – but with a twist

Back in March 2022, while practicing on the horizontal bars, Gunther snapped the high bar in half and fell on the mat. Following this, he posted the clip of the whole fiasco on his official Instagram handle and mentioned gymnastics equipment supplier ‘Spieth America’ writing, “@spietamerica I think we need to replace our AAI bar #gymnastics #fail #ncaa #mensgymnastics.” However, as the said episode marks almost two years, Gunther and Young created a spoof for the same.

Nevertheless, this time, Young played the role of culprit behind Gunther’s high bar accident. Posting the video on his IG account, Gunther playfully penned, “THIS WASN’T AN ACCIDENT.” The video starts with a recap of the High bar fiasco followed by a recording showing two masked men while Gunther said “someone tampered with the bar in order to sabotage me.”

Following this, Gunther stated, “I knew who’d want to do this to me but I didn’t want to accuse anyone until I was 100% ceratin.” Continuing the play, the 24-year-old retrieves a black mask from Young’s locker and quipped, “Khoi’s tried to sabotage me in the past,” showing a mask found in his locker. “So now I know Khoi sabotaged me that’s the reason I fell from the bars,” further confronting his suspect.

Gunther then stated on the recording, “Gonna catch Khoi red-handed…,” then he opens a door with Kaien Orion being busted sitting with mask on as Khoi playfully confessed “Ian Gunther set this whole thing up but it was him the whole time.” While the gymnasts were spot on with their humor during holidays, Gunther narrated the whole incident on his official YouTube handle in 2022.

Ian Gunther narrated the accident back in 2022

Sharing the video on his official YouTube handle, Gunther stated, “So I snapped a steel bar in half. I have never seen or heard of this happening in all of my 17 years of being a gymnast.” He then walked his followers through a slow-mo and added, “I was doing the same trick I’ve done for the million times and I heard the super loud snap. I instantly knew that the bar broke and I had no idea where I was in the relation to the bar.”

As the gymnast landed on the mat after the bar snapped, he confessed, “Not gonna lie but there’s a moment it felt like my soul left my body but overall I was pretty safe.” Interestingly, looking at the whole episode with an optimistic perspective, Gunther took home the broken piece of the bar calling it a “cool souvenir.”
