Olympic gymnast Simone Biles has broken ties with mental health start-up Cerebral Inc. ending their endorsement partnership, which developed in 2021. The company announced the split on Tuesday, dropping Biles as its “chief impact officer.” Moreover, the sudden break-off is the result of a subpoena the federal investigators appointed to check Cerebral’s clinical practices.

In 2020, Cerebral began as an online mental health platform where people could opt for clinical help. It intended to provide online access to therapists and prescribers for mental-health treatment.

Cerebral’s ongoing controversy can directly impact the four-time Olympic gold medalist’s reputation. It can lead her to major risks for endorsing a brand that does not have a clean chit from the federal investigators. Although, athletes are not involved in the company’s operations if the brand suffers it can jeopardize the athlete’s image too.

Since Biles played the role of a chief impact officer, she could fall into major trouble for her commitment to the brand. Although Biles has not commented on her split up with Cerebral, her spokesperson told Wall Street Journal on Tuesday“The term of the contract ended earlier this year and wasn’t extended.” None of the parties wish to release any statement on the current dynamics of their relationship. However, they have officially ended their tie-up that began in 2021 after Simone’s courageous gesture in the Tokyo Olympics.

As per reports, the major cause of Cerebral controversy is their prescriptions of controlled substances. The nurses expressed that they felt pressurized to prescribe powerful stimulants like Adderall for adults with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder after a 30-minute evaluation. Therefore, reputed pharmacy brands Walmart and CVS stopped meeting Cerebral’s prescription requirements. Biles has split from the company seven months after federal investigators issued a subpoena to the firm.
