Having already bagged the Sportswoman of the Year award thrice in 2017, 2019, and 2020, Simone Biles has completed her redemption arc. Biles previously missed out on the Comeback of the Year category in 2022, but this time around, the US gymnast queen has bagged the gold

Simone Biles wins the Laureus Comeback Of the Year award 

In what was a grand announcement, Simone Biles was awarded the Comeback of the Year award, further establishing her legacy in the sport. Biles suffered from what she termed as “twisties” during the Tokyo Olympics. This resulted in Biles opting out of the finals. However, her comeback story was yet to commence. A couple of years after her Tokyo departure, Biles participated in the World Championships 2023 in Antwerp, Belgium, and shocked everyone

Simone Biles bagged four gold medals and secured gold in her sixth all-around victory in the World Championship. In addition to Biles’ spectacular show, she became the sole athlete to nail the Yurchenko double pike in the competition. For the uninitiated, the routine is an extremely complex one and is often avoided by gymnasts. 

Thus, while Biles’ withdrawal labeled her as a “coward”, her comeback was surely much grander. It was the character and composure displayed by Simone Biles that established her as one of the modern-day greats. Thus, it is no wonder that the US gymnast would be hoping to seal the deal by winning the Comeback of the Year award. 

Biles eyes Paris’s glory

Well, Simone Biles’ comeback is not yet done. She is eyeing for a full-fledged redemption in Paris. Simone Biles has been training hard for the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024. While most of the fans expected her to take the mat at the Winter Cup, she delayed her return. Biles spent a quality vacation with her hubby, Jonathan Owens in Hawaii.

Coming back refreshed from the holidays, Biles is now razor-focused on winning the Paris Olympic gold. The 27-year-old announced her return at the US Classics in May. Biles would look to redeem herself by helping Team USA win the gold this time, which she left incomplete three years back due to an unfortunate health concern.
