“Our relationship has been seamless,” said Simone Biles back in 2021 about her relationship with Jonathan Owens. The athletic power couple’s story from meeting on the dating app Raya to getting married in Mexico has been nothing but a fairytale. However, following her marriage, while fans were expecting Biles to fly for a honeymoon, things took an interesting turn.

NFL safety, Jonathan Owens had to cater to his work commitments with the Green Bay Packers just after his wedding. Hence, the honeymoon plans for Mr. and Mrs. Owens had to wait for a while. Giving details about her post-wedding shenanigans on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Biles stated, ”We were together the whole entire time, and then as soon as we get married, green Bay’s like, hey, we wanna sign him. So we went from our wedding, dropped our bags, flew out the next morning, signed a Green Bay.”

She further added, ”they were like, see you Monday. Jonathan. So as soon as we got married it was long distance. So it was very different.”

Unfortunately, due to this NFL contract, Owens had to miss Biles’ comeback to gymnastics. The former Green Bay Packers defensive line couldn’t leave training to watch Biles making history at world championships. But whenever the two got time, they were spotted cheering for each other. On the same note, Biles flew to Green Bay multiple times to stand by his man during the 2023-24 NFL season.

However, for the couple, another challenge was waiting at the tail end of the year 2023. In December 2023, during an interview with the Pivot podcast, the NFL safety said, ‘he’s the catch‘ in their relationship. The result – fans did not take it well and Owens had to face a major backlash. But the comments did not break Biles, and she was strong enough to claim that, “In a couple of years, nobody is going to call him, Simone Biles’ husband. They’ll call me Jonathan Owens’ wife.” Indeed, Biles settled the debate by calling out critics for coming for her family and husband.

From cheering for her husband from afar to shutting down the backlash that came from her fandom, Biles stood firmly to support her husband. In Call her Daddy podcast, mentioning how people react when it comes to their relationship, the gymnast said, ‘‘A lot of people that meet him are like, oh my gosh. Like I want a man like that.”

Interestingly, as they celebrate their one-year anniversary, both Owens and Biles are home until their respective seasons kick off. While Biles is eyeing the 2024 Paris Olympics, Owens has signed a $4.75 million contract for two years with Chicago Bears. More so, the athletic pair is also building their dream house in Houston.

Defining their relationship after one year into the marriage, Biles mentioned she still feels like she is dating. “We’re still dating, you know? Yeah. Married life is no different.” Juggling professional sports career and relationship is not easy, but if anyone can do it, it is Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens.
