The 15-year curse has finally been broken! After the Beijing Olympic Games, the Team USA men’s artistic gymnastics team has won an Olympic medal once again. Following some exceptional performances by Paul Juda, Fred Richard, and the rest of the team, it all came down to the pommel horse. After Juda’s impressive routine on the same apparatus, it was time for Stephen Nedoroscik to step up.

Rising to the occasion, Nedoroscik delivered a flawless display of strength and finesse, securing an Olympic medal for his team. Facing tough competition from Ukraine, Italy, China, and Japan, the USA claimed the bronze medal with a total of 257.793 points. The USA’s scores on each apparatus were as follows: Floor (42.799), Pommel Horse (42.466), Rings (42.732), Vault (44.032), Parallel Bars (43.399), and Horizontal Bars (42.365).

The surprise element in the men’s all-around team final was Japan. They dominated all the apparatus to clinch the gold medal. Japan scored an incredible 259.594. China came in second, missing out on gold by a whisker as their score read 259.062. Meanwhile, following Team USA’s historic feat, congratulatory messages began to come in. Tokyo gold medal winner Suni Lee took to her X account to express her excitement. She said, “LETS GOOOO😭🥹👏👏.” Well, while Team USA men will surely soak in the glory of the moment, the road to their triumph was not an easy one.

Brody Malone’s setback pegged back Team USA

Coming to Paris, a chunk of the responsibility of seeing the nation through was vested in Brody Malone. Malone, who had scored an impressive 170.300 in the US trials, could not replicate the same finesse. Attempting his high bar routine, Brody Malone shocked the world as he failed to grab the bars on two occasions, resulting in two heartbreaking falls. Malone’s woes did not seem to end as on the Pommel Horse apparatus too, Malone suffered a fall.

Such a mediocre display threatened Team USA with not being able to break the curse that has haunted them since 2008. The onus was completely on Paul Juda and the NCAA phenom, Fred Richards to propel USA’s chances. Surely, they did not disappoint. And while Juda and Richard did contribute, the likes of Asher Hong, and Stephen Nedoroscik too, chipped in at crucial moments to give the USA a historic night to remember. Thus, with their mission accomplished as of now, the team of champions will now look to raise the bar further and achieve more such glories in the coming future.
