When you’re good at what you do, you only create more expectations. With Simone Biles reclaiming her high throne on the Olympic stage, it seems like the world can’t wait to see which new bunny she pulls out of the hat next. So much so, that the 27-year-old might be at her wit’s end.

The cumulative clamor to know what the USA’s most decorated female gymnast of all time has planned as her next step is making Simone lose her calm. In her post on X from just minutes ago, Biles vented her frustration at the towering expectation that many successful athletes have to face after a dominant performance. “you guys really gotta stop asking athletes what’s next after they win a medal at the Olympics,” frowned the 23-time World Championships gold medalist.

The Texas resident has bagged three medals at the Paris Olympics so far, with the possibility of claiming more in individual events. However, her followers don’t seem to have their cups filled. The ongoing 2024 Games, for a lot of reasons, is one of the most important tournaments in Simone’s career. After winning gold medals at the 2023 World Championships in Antwerp, the gymnast locked her focus on the 33rd Olympics to make up for her troubled run-in with the “twisties” from three years ago, and she has made the opportunity count spectacularly.

Justifiably, Simone and her teammates are trying to savor their victory without thinking about the future for now. “let us soak up the moment we’ve worked our whole lives for,” said Cecile Landi’s star student. However, while many stars would succumb to the mounting pressure of high expectations, Biles isn’t alien to such targeted potshots.

Simone Biles has had her fair share of name-calling

After she pulled out of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics final due to her mental ordeal, the gymnast was met with severe criticism from fans in both the USA as well as from other parts of the world. While the folks over at USA Gymnastics extended their full support, Biles couldn’t escape being called out for leaving her teammates hanging on the biggest stage. Even J.D. Vans, former Ohio Senator, remarked that it was “weird” seeing Simone bowing out when she was standing on the cusp of greatness. Charlie Kirk, a Republican activist, called Biles a “selfish sociopath” and a “shame to the country“. However, taking some time off from the sport, Biles bounced back emphatically at the 2023 US Classic, where she once again displayed her skills for the world to admire.

Simone has faced further criticism for her lovey-dovey social media posts with her husband and NFL star Jonathan Owens. The Chicago Bears safety’s comment about being the “catch” in their relationship opened the floodgates to sneering comments across the cyber world. However, appearing for an interview with the Call Her Daddy podcast in April, Simone made it clear that she won’t tolerate fans coming after her family. She instead stated that she could take all the criticism, but wouldn’t stand to see her husband’s name being smeared with muck. Jonathan was again slammed online after pictures of him holding Simone’s Paris Olympics gold medal surfaced.

Again, Simone would come with all her wrath, calling the critics “miserable” in a TikTok video and asking to be left alone. However, while fans everywhere seem to have their own opinions on everything Biles does, the gymnasts seems to be in the headspace where she’s ready to face such jeers without losing her cool anymore.

With more individual event titles still up for grabs at the French capital, it remains to be seen if the national icon can add more feathers to her cap and silence the naysayers one more time.
