Alexandra Raisman is someone who is known for her resilience on the mat. The three-time Olympic gold winner remains one of the most revered names in the sport. Furthermore, her dedication to helping athletes has also made her an iconic name across the country. Despite this, the gymnastics legend acknowledged that even she struggles with mental health issues.

In a recent podcast, Alexandra Raisman talked about her daily life struggles and how being mentally contended is something she finds challenging. Her short but incredible career in the Olympics has placed her on a high pedestal. Yet, Raisman has talked about the mental health of athletes on several occasions. In the latest video, Aly Raisman spoke more about how she sometimes feels the blues and ways to tackle such stressful times.

Gymnastics legend talks about ways to cope with mental health issues

In the short video clip posted by the Olympic gymnast, Raisman can be heard emphasizing the importance of learning about ourselves. “I think one of the biggest realizations I’ve had is I kinda let go of the idea that maybe one day I’ll feel happy all the time“, said the iconic gymnast. She also said that coming to terms with the thought that not everything is going to be fine every day is important for good mental health.

Raisman said that realizing that there will be days when she feels low is something that has helped her cope with the stressful days. She said that feeling anxious some mornings after waking up is normal. Raisman said not knowing why you’re feeling like that is normal but being brave enough to face the issues head on is also essential.

Raisman suggested that taking things slowly is crucial to turn things around. “Taking it days by day” and telling yourself that this isn’t something that will last forever is important to keep your head in the game.

More pressure than ever before?

Not only mental pressure, but the gymnastics champion is also vocal about how extreme competitiveness is changing the world. She has previously talked about how she has had to deal with crippling pressure to look thinner.

Experiences of body shaming as a child left Raisman scarred for a long time. Despite her struggles, the Olympic gymnast shares a strong bond with the likes of Simone Biles, who stands firm in her corner.
