Both Simone Biles and Serena Williams are regarded as one of the greatest in their respective sports. In fact, Biles also had her custom GOAT emoji on Twitter during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. On the other hand, Williams, who has record 23 grand slams, played a huge role in bringing Women’s Tennis into recognition. Serena even competed and won the 2017 Australian Open title while she was pregnant.

Even after several major achievements, legendary athletes like Biles and Williams, are often left out of conversations about the “greatest” athlete. A similar tweet from ‘Daily Loud’ left both the athletes’ fans furious and they did not hold back their reactions.

Fans bring up Serena Williams and Simone Biles in the ‘athlete of the century’ debate

It is not news that, for years, women athletes are usually sidelined when a debate about “the best sportsperson” is discussed. In a recent incident on Twitter, a sports page named Daily Loud posted a collage of several athletes and captioned it, “Who would you consider the athlete of the century so far?”

The image included Michael Phelps, Tom Brady, LeBron James, and a few other “male” athletes. However, what angered the people the most was the exclusion of the legendary gymnast Simone Biles and former tennis great Serena Williams. Many fans were frustrated about their ignorance towards these two legendary athletes.

Some of the fans replied to the post and wrote,“Simone Biles should be here too.”

“Is Serena Williams a Joke to you ?”

“Why isn’t Serena photo up here?”

While others pointed out, why Biles and Williams deserved to be on the list,“Simone Biles.. she literary has a move they banned because she’s the only one that can do it”

“the one who won a major while being pregnant and without losing a set”

“i’m sorry but i won’t stand for @Simone_Biles erasure – we’re not going to act like my good sis doesn’t have 4 moves named after her, like she didn’t flip (no pun intended) the entire gymnastics world & point system upside down also any list without @serenawilliams is an insult”

“the one who won a major while being pregnant and without losing a set”

“the correct answer is @Simone_Biles “

Some also called out the injustice women athletes face during discussions of such important topics,“Why no women? No Simone Biles, not even Serena Williams?”

“Y’all don’t think Serena could be in this conversation, I mean if Phelps in there Simone Biles definitely should get some consideration.”

“crazy how only men play sports !!!”

However, this is not the first time that Biles or Williams, or many other legendary female athletes, were not considered in similar lists.

But, every time a situation like this arises, their fans never fail to remind others of these star athletes. Hopefully, next time when someone posts about “the greatest athlete of the century”, Biles and Williams would not be left out.
