Meet Romania’s Ana Barbosu who overtook Jordan Chiles

The European athlete in question is merely 18 years old and was born in Focsani. Barbosu took up gymnastics merely at the age of four in 2010 at the CSS Focsani club back home. She also made a unique record by winning six gold medals in a single edition of the tournament at the 2020 European Junior Championships in Turkey.

After accomplishing such incredible feats at such a young age, Ana Barbosu joined the Olympic team and showed up at the Paris Summer Games. She performed well in the women’s floor finals but was placed after Chiles when the judges reevaluated the score.

Romania’s Olympic Committee intervened, demanding a revaluation of their athletes as well. While the fans are still fuming over the drama, it seems like the final verdict is out and it’s not looking good for Team USA.

Ana Barbosu couldn’t overcome the rest of the American hurdles

It is safe to say that America dominated most of the artistic gymnastics at this year’s Olympics. First, we saw Team USA winning bronze in the men’s team final. The next day, the female team bagged the gold medal for home. On the 1st of August, Simone Biles and Sunisa Lee secured gold and bronze, respectively, during the women’s all-around finals. Biles secured another gold during the women’s vault finals while Jade Carey got bronze in the event. Stephen Nedoroscik didn’t fall behind as he also got bronze in the men’s pommel horse finals.

During the women’s uneven bars final, we saw Sunisa Lee securing yet another bronze in the event. At last, the floor exercise saw Simone Biles get a silver medal. While Jordan Chiles could have gotten bronze in that event, that seems to have changed now. However, Ana Barbosu wasn’t able to clear out the rest of the competition with her skills. But seeing how the young athlete performed so well at the Olympics, Team USA may have to come even more prepared next year to make sure that they can successfully outrun the rising star from Romania.
