Biles started training at eight and won her first gold when she was sixteen. Simone Biles once opened up about a surgery she had to go through and the fear surrounding her.

Simone Biles opens up about her first surgery

In her autobiography “Courage To Soar”, Biles talked about when she landed short during one of her feats and jammed her ankles. Biles would feel shooting pain in her ankles during sequences or when she was tired.

Her parents decided to get her ankle operated on, and this would be Biles’ first surgery. The 25-year-old gymnast was terrified of the idea and was doubtful if she would ever return to her sport. She asked the doctor, “Will my parents be with me when I wake up?”

The doctors said her parents wouldn’t be allowed in because they wanted her to come out of anesthesia on her own. Although Biles could not have her parents with her, she kept her Christmas blanket during the surgery.

Biles had to let go of another thing

After the surgery, Biles woke up snuggling in her blanket. The doctors discharged her soon after with some painkillers and an orthopedic shoe. Biles was also put on crutches for a few weeks after her treatment.

Another thing that Simone Biles had to let go of because of her surgery was her newly pierced belly button ring. Biles had to remove the ornament to prevent herself from getting electrocuted during the treatment.

The gymnastics GOAT had got her belly ring just two days before the surgery. She said that she and her mother researched a lot about where to get her piercing from. After reading good reviews, they finalized one artist and got it done.
