Yul Moldauer was all geared up ahead of the Winter Cup 2024. While his place in the national team is already guaranteed, the Tokyo Olympian is looking to start off his campaign with a victory at his season-opening game. It was all well until the third round as Yul led the leaderboard, but it isn’t anymore.

The 27-year-old was flawless in his parallel bars routine and scored 15.00 points in the first rotation. However, he couldn’t maintain his momentum in the next rotations with dismal performances in pommel horse and horizontal routine.

Yul Moldauer about to lose from Shane Wiskus?

Shan Wiskus overtook the World Medalist in the fifth rotation with a total of 70.300 points. On the other hand, Yul managed 2nd position with 70.100 points after securing 14.150 points on the rings. The 3x NCAA Champion was over the 14-point mark throughout the majority of five rounds, easily secured a 1st place in the fourth round, and has now extended the lead to the fifth rotation.

Wiskus had racked up 56.450 points after the end of the fourth round to lead Yul, who finished on 55.950. But before that round, Wiskus ranked 3rd while the Tokyo Olympian looked to steal the victory at the halfway stage. Yul was at 42.600 points as the 3rd rotation concluded but the tide turned soon in Wiskus’ favor as his consistent performances cumulated in the eventual lead as the day progressed.

Wiskus was incredibly perfect on the floor, vault, and pommel horse. He topped the floor routines with a score of 14.550, finished 4th in Parallel bars with 14.800, and finished 8th on vault after posting 14.400. On the other hand, Yul Moldauer couldn’t follow up on his 15.000 parallel bar score. The 27-year-old finished 13th on the horizontal bar with 13.200 while he grabbed 14.400 on the floor later. His performance in the fourth rotation didn’t improve as Wiskus geared pace.

Yul was disappointed again in the 4th rotation after only managing to score 13.350 on the pommel horse while Wiskus posted his best of the day, 14.800. He posted 13.850 on the horizontal bars to maintain the lead. If the 3x NCAA Champion just manages to post something around the 14-point mark in the final rotation, he should be clear of Yul on day one of the Winter Cup.
