Inside the holiday traditions of America’s elite athletes

NBC Olympics & Paralympics recently took to its official X account to share the video of the Olympics and Paralympics athletes. In it, US legendary athletes including Katie Ledecky, Gabby Thomas, Asher Hong, Brittni Mason, Andrew Capobianco, Christian Coleman, and Ilona Maher revealed their Christmas plans. Best known for clinching the most gold medals, Katie Ledecky opened up about her holiday plans, saying, “I’ll be at home and just enjoying some good, home-cooked food and some of our favorite little traditions at the family”. While for sprinter Gabby Thomas Christmas “looks like all of my siblings. There are five of us, and we’re all together.’’

The 19-year-old youngest U.S. men’s all-around gymnastics champion Asher Hong also divulged his holiday season plans and showed his excitement for spending time with family.  “Yeah, I’m looking forward to eating home-cooked meals. I’m stuck at university, so a lot of dining hall meals, but going back, kicking back, chilling with the fam…I am excited to have that.’’ Asher added.

Brittni Mason also disclosed that she just loves spending time with her family on Christmas, “being around loved ones is super important for me’’ US Olympic diver Andrew Capobianco stated, “I really like presents. I love giving presents, obviously, and I also love receiving presents, but I do truly love giving presents more’’

US track and field sprinter Christian Coleman loves “fellowship with his family, being around them, and breaking bread with them on Christmas.”  For US rugby union player Ilona Maher, “Christmas isn’t a big event, but it just is a time for us to come together’’.
