Spencer Lee couldn’t have asked for a better time at the Bill Farrell Memorial. Back in April, the University of Iowa wrestling star had to forfeit the US Open because of a leg injury. However, Lee reached the semis at the tournament with three resounding wins. While his injury raised several eyebrows, Lee brushed aside any concerns to secure his spot in the National qualifiers for the 2024 Olympics.

Spencer is one of the most revered collegiate wrestlers in the country. The Titan Mercury Wrestling Club announced Lee’s return after 7 months for the Bill Farrell Memorial International and fans couldn’t have wanted a better show. Lee is known for his quick takedowns but Penn State’s Nico Megaludis gave him a run for his money in the final match.

The star wrestler played three matches at the Bill Farrell Memorial in the New York Athletic Club on November 18. The 2019 National Champion was revealed to be competing in the 57kg category. Mohammed Bilal from Pakistan was the first opponent who stood in the way of the three-time NCAA Division I champ Lee. Lee, being one of the top finishers in the country, immediately went after Bilal and grabbed his legs with little resistance. FloWrestling posted a clip of the bout on their X handle with the caption, “Spencer Lee’s Full Run At The 2023 Bill Farrell (Olympic Trials Qualifier)”

Lee went behind and caught Bilal in a leg lace to force him to roll on the mat. All it took was 40 seconds for Lee to snatch 10 points as Bilal was left disappointed and on the ground. A 10-0 tech fall win secured him his first win after months, but Lee remained composed in his next battle.

No. 1 seed and Penn State commit Luke Lilledahl faced Spencer Lee in the semi-final match. Lee’s technical superiority earned him his third straight win of the night after 1:27 on the clock. The high schooler had to concede 11-0 to Lee.
