Shaun White’s strategy is a blend of physical and mental training

White achieved the extraordinary feat of his fifth Olympic berth this week. 35-year-old and yet a dominator on the snowboarding ground, Shaun spilled the beans about his training for Beijing as the oldest competitor.

White said joking about his hair change, ”Well, longer hair back then, so it’s a little easier routine these days. I think every single time I go to the Olympics it’s just a different process. I mean, I always kind of think that what got me to this point of my career won’t necessarily take me the rest of the way so. Not only I have been focused a lot on my physical health, but just like the mental health of it all, you know. Like staying positive and staying motivated and the people that are around me.”

Further adding, ”I think it’s more calculative practice sessions. I would say more like a power window than I used to just be up there all day long. I’m like, okay, I don’t have that much energy. I’m not an old guy, but like one of my competitors at the last competition was 15. I’m like, oh my goodness. I’m definitely pacing it out a bit more.”

Why is Shaun White retiring?

He was just six when he first started his snowboarding career, and 19 when he first appeared at the Olympic ground. Since then White has been an unstoppable force. However, lately, Shaun has been complaining about body pains out of nowhere. Moreover, it also takes him a lot of time to recover from injuries compared to his young counterparts.

White has taken the huge retirement decision listening to his body. Just like other Olympic greats, Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps, the era of Shaun White will also end soon. However, there is one last appearance left for the world to witness. Do you think Shaun will clinch his last Olympic gold medal in China?
