The current NHL season saw some heated moments on the ice rink. However, things got pretty intense during the match between Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning. The hockey arena converted into a battleground after Flyers Defenseman delivered a spear to the Lightning forward.

The news came as a shock for the audience as no one was expecting such violent action from the match. While fights are of course far from uncommon in the league this battle royale exceeded all previous standards.

WWE action in an NHL match

The recent NHL game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Tampa Bay Lightning, turned violent Tony DeAngelo from the Flyers reportedly used his stick to spear Corey Perry from the Lightning. It all started when a goal run for the flyers failed during the third period. A small verbal spat in front of the nets turned into a horrific battle as Tony slashed the Lightning defense with a stick. 

The lighting players ran towards Tony and deliver some serious blows. The arena was filled with loud screams and roars as the chaos spread on the ice rink leading to a physical altercation between the two players and their respective teams. The incident caused a disturbance on the ice and resulted in penalties for both players.

The NHL league takes such behavior seriously and can impose further disciplinary actions, including fines and suspensions. According to USA Today, the organization took serious steps and slammed Tony for his misconduct. He was suspended for two games. The scoreline ended 5-2 in the favor of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Such brutal fights can have adverse effects on the dwindling viewership of the current season.

The losing viewership of the tournament due to delays

The current season of the NHL isn’t going as the organizers would’ve expected. Recently, a report on this year’s viewership was highlighted by the veteran hockey player, Mark J. Burns. The former hockey players quoted the report of Austin Karp which showed the drastic fall in viewership. He also gave some tough feedback on the reasons for the decreasing popularity.

The legend said that unnecessary delays in the gaming action are becoming a major reason for the losing interest of the viewers. While these physical brawls gave a thrill to the audience, it hampers the decorum of the sport and the sportsman spirit as well. It’s high time to take some crucial decisions to prevent any such misconduct in the future.
