The invention of drugs and medicines has helped humanity greatly. These drugs help one enhance their healing and growth while inhibiting unwanted symptoms. However, using drugs while engaging in competitive sports has always been looked down upon, and serious punishment for the usage of the same follows. Breaking this norm, a new sports league has announced its arrival. This new league is yet to hold its first edition. Despite this, the CEO of the league has directly challenged the Olympics’ position and supremacy.

The sports league is based on the Olympics but will not have any prohibition on the usage of drugs. In fact, the games will encourage athletes to make the best use of drugs to break world records. The league, named ‘Enhanced Games,’ says its objective is to shatter world records and remove all ‘meaningless’ barriers from true human achievements.

New sporting league to kick off in December 2024

The founder and CEO of Enhanced Games, Aron D’Souza, announced the league to the New York Post. He said, “Fundamentally, the Olympics are broken.” Aron stated that the management of the Olympics is stacked with layers of needless bureaucracy that filter out a lot of good players. He said that this is very impractical and acts against the athletes who are both able and desperate. Speaking about the usage of drugs, D’Souza said that the use of drugs will benefit humanity as a whole.

He said that the usage of performance-elevating drugs leads to decelerated aging. He argued that he desires to see even 60-year-olds compete and break world records. The Enhanced Games will be held annually, unlike the Olympics. The management has announced the games, but they have not yet chosen the host city. The CEO also talked about giving athletes the right pay and treatment they deserve.

D’Souza talks about the moral failings of the Olympics

D’Souza has advocated for competing athletes to receive a salary for competing in the games. Athletes that compete in the Olympics do not get any compensation from the Olympics. They just receive the prize money whenever they bag the top three positions and win a medal. D’Souza called this a moral failing on the part of the Olympics. “It is a vestige of the aristocratic sentiment behind the outdated unpaid ‘amateur’ requirement,” said D’Souza.

Such a sports league would obviously not be welcome by a majority of the people. Former cycling gold medalist and the Aussie Chef de Mission for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Anna Meares, strongly criticized the games. She said that the very conception of such games is a joke, and this would be very unsafe and unfair. In his defense, D’Souza said that while nobody is barred from taking drugs, nobody is forced to take them either. He said that the decision to use the drugs rests with the players.
