For the first time in a century, the City of Light will play home to the 2024 Paris Olympics. Its opening ceremony welcomes 10,000 competitors greeted by a four-mile pathway on the glittering waterways of the Seine full of half a million spectators. The French capital is preparing for the event of a century, anticipating around 15 million visitors.

Recently, British fans have brought more attention to the Summer Olympics after beating Germany and the USA regarding ticket sales only second to Paris. Leaving the world questioning: Why are Brits propelling the global demand for Paris 2024?

According to The Guardian, British supporters are grabbing more tickets than fans from other foreign countries, indicating that the Team GB effect is well and far underway. According to Étienne Thobois (chief executive of the Paris Olympics), the closeness of France and the long-lasting effects of London 2012 are common grounds for surged interest. Thobois expressed his happiness by sharing, “Britain is the first market by far outside of France, with almost 500,000 tickets sold.”

Thobois also disclosed an astounding statistic: 76% of the 10 million seats that are available for purchase have already been acquired by 197 different countries. After Germany and France’s neighbor, supporters from the United States have obtained the third-highest number of tickets. Now, with most of the tickets sold out, the reality appears to be far from the initial ideal as the Paris Olympics organizers pursued their lofty objective of hosting the Games.

With 1.5 million more tickets available, the second round of ticket sales is now in progress. However, the high cost of $2,930 for each of these premium tickets highlights the mounting worries over Olympic accessibility. However, the British fans are emerging as the strongest supporters of their clan, quite reasonably so.

What keeps Brits hopeful for the Games?

Team GB has performed admirably throughout the last four Games, placing fourth in the medal standings at Beijing 2008, third in London 2012, second in Rio 2016, and fourth in Tokyo 2020. The Daily Mail made predictions last week that Team GB would take home 64 medals in Paris 2024—the same amount they did in Tokyo 2020.
