Inside Ryan Sheckler’s journey through fame – there’s more to the story

Sheckler’s rise to fame began at a young age when he turned pro at a mere 14 years old. His success skyrocketed with the launch of his reality show, which offered him a chance to connect with the audience while giving them a glimpse into his life on and off the skateboard. However, fame came with its own set of challenges, as he faced a backlash from the community, who accused him of selling out.

Despite all the negativity, Sheckler continued to push himself, using the criticism as fuel to improve his skills and take on more daring challenges. However, the pressure took its toll, and he found himself turning to alcohol as a coping mechanism. My passion for skateboarding was overtaken by my desire to drink,” he admitted in an exclusive interview with ew.com.

After going through a lot as an alcohol addict, Sheckler finally made a decision in 2016 to enter a rehab center to address his alcohol addiction. Though he experienced a relapse in 2020, he recommitted to sobriety and recognized that being sober was the best decision he could have made in his life. Now Ryan is happily married to Abigail Sheckler, and the couple have a daughter, Olive, indicating that the ghosts of his past have indeed been cut off.

While his wife enjoys revisiting the episodes of his childhood, “Life of Ryan,” Sheckler finds it difficult to recognise the challenges he faced off. However, the “Life of Ryan” is not the only documentary featuring Sheckler.

Now, Sheckler is finding strength in setbacks

Eight months back, Sheckler released a documentary, “Rolling Away,” that not only chronicled his triumphs on the skateboard but also the serious injuries he endured. “I’m actually happy about the injury,” he shared. “I learned a lot. That was a chance for me to grow spiritually, mentally, and physically.

From torn ACLs to broken vertebrae, each setback has always presented an opportunity and introspection for Sheckler. As Sheckler continues to navigate the highs and lows of life, his story is still reminding people about the power of determination and the ability to overcome even the greatest obstacle.
