“I Was in the Stretcher”: Lindsay Vonn Reveals Saddening Details About Her Worst Career Phase

Legendary skier, Lindsey Vonn has had a supremely successful career despite various challenging circumstances. In her 15-year career, the Olympic skier faced several injuries, still, she gathered courage to win 82 world cups, emerging as one of the greatest skiers in the world. However, behind Vonn’s calm, she had a way to deal with her career’s worst injuries that pushed her to come back stronger later. 

Recently, Lindsey Vonn appeared in an interview with Club 30 Pod. The show’s official Twitter page shared a clip from the conversation where Vonn talked about the setbacks she faced in her skiing career. She expressed how she approached all the nine major injuries that could have been a hurdle to her skiing career.

During the interview, the host complimented Vonn saying that the skier’s ability to combat her injuries was highly impressive. To this Vonn stated, “I approached all of my injuries the same way.” 

Vonn gave an instance of how she dealt with a knee injury that she encountered a few years ago. Vonn stated, “I was in the stretcher asking how long is it going to take? Is this six weeks? What do I got?” The skier was very inquisitive to know how long she would have to bear the injury. However, her curiosity calmed the moment the nurse told her that she would take six months to recover as she had blown up her knee.

As soon as Vonn received a definitive answer, she aimed to make a strong comeback after those 6 months. For her, the duration after her recovery would become her next goal. She stated in the interview, “I kind of erased what I had planned on doing and then I fixated on that as my goal.” Vonn would plan a definite path for her comeback and would simply grind on it to return to her original form.  Last month, a video showed Vonn fighting her injuries, similar to what Vonn relayed in her latest interview.

In May, Gold Cast shared an inspirational video of skier Lindsey Vonn rising from her worst injury. It featured Vonn’s mishap that she experienced at the World Cup Super-G in Austria in 2013. The skier had landed awkwardly, which made her undergo multiple injuries. 

She stated in the video“I had two ACL surgeries, MCL, Meniscus, I have a plate and 19 screws in my arm.”  Following her injury, people presumed that she could never ski again. However, Vonn’s dedication made her come back in season 2014/15, winning four cups respectively in Downhill and Super G events. That season, she surpassed legendary skier Anne-Marie Moser-Pröll to become the most successful skier in the history of the competition.

Indeed, Vonn’s resilience is supremely commendable. Her injuries made her a fighter, which gave her the strength to excel in her glorious skiing career.
