Lindsey Vonn is an inspiring example of fighting your own battles relentlessly. As a celebrated female skier, her journey has not been an easy one. In 2014, before the Sochi Olympics, the multi-time Olympic gold medalist experienced acute anxiety. Apparently, Vonn faced a series of events that messed up her mental health. So much so, she reportedly thought she would never be at peace, mentally.

In the 2010 Winter Olympics, Lindsey became the first American woman to win the gold medal in the downhill category. In the same category, she also holds the record for bagging eight World Cup titles in total. Among all the skiers in the world, including men and women, she ranks second.

What messed up Lindsey Vonn’s mental health?

Lindsey Vonn experienced a life-threatening accident during the World Championship in Austria in 2013. Immediately, she was airlifted to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with a cartilage injury and joint damage. Her injury would also affect her ability to race again. In such a situation, Vonn had to undergo a crucial surgery. After getting operated on, she conveyed to her coaches and fans that she would be back by the Sochi Olympics 2014.

With less than a year left for the Olympics, Lindsey would feel the pressure of going back to the competition. She had several doubts and thoughts in her mind during her recovery that made her anxious very often. Vonn’s anxiety forced her to go through several sleepless nights. Having to feel the same doubts every day, Lindsey slowly trapped herself in insomnia. In a candid interview, the female skier opened about her thoughts:

I was in pain after the surgery which made it hard to sleep, but I knew I needed sleep to recover—and I had to recover to be ready for the Olympics. That stress made it even harder to sleep,”

She continued: “It was the most immense pressure.”

Inevitably, her acute injury stopped her from appearing in Sochi, however, she did return eventually. Before retiring in 2019, she bagged many world championships titles, leaving her glorious legacy.

How Lindsey Vonn cured her mental health issues?

Initially, the world-famous Alpine Skier expected to get rid of her mental health problems post-retirement. However, Vonn’s insomnia was becoming worse day by day. She consulted many doctors and tried every possible treatment, but nothing worked.

Finally, in June 2022, Vonn opened up about her insomniac and anxiety issues to her doctor. She was prescribed a night treatment for adults, Quivivq, that worked magically on her curing her insomnia.
