Lindsey Vonn is among the greatest Alpine skiing champions in history. Vonn has had a long career. She started skiing competitively in 2000 and over the next two decades, built a record-breaking career. She became the first American woman to win an Olympic gold in the downhill discipline and earned 20 crystal globes to surpass the legendary Ingemar Stenmark.

When such a historic career ended, understandably, Lindsey faced many challenges. However, three years after retirement, Vonn is thriving as an entrepreneur. In a recent interview, Vonn revealed how her father’s advice helped her.

How her father’s advice helped Lindsey Vonn

In August, Lindsey sat down for an interview with Miami magazine. During the interview, Lindsey talked about the challenges she had to face after her career ended. The realization that her long and illustrious career had ended hit Lindsey hard. She confessed about going through depression and bouts of insomnia. However, the Olympian also remembered her father’s golden advice, and it helped her transition from sports to business.

Lindsey said, “My dad has always made me aware that athletes’ career spans are usually pretty short, so I was prepared.” Vonn also said, “I had everything set up with business and I was busy, I had things to do, and I was working a lot.”

While her father’s advice had prepared her for retirement, it was still hard to deal with. Lindsey added, “I only ended my career because of a large accumulation of injuries.” Undoubtedly, the Olympian’s life revolved around skiing and she would’ve continued if the injuries didn’t force her to stop.

Since retiring in 2019, Vonn has written a memoir, Rise: My Story. Vonn and her friend Claire Brown also co-founded the company Après Productions. Apart from being an ambassador for various brands, Lindsey also runs a charity; The Lindsey Vonn foundation provides underprivileged girls with scholarships.

Induction into the Olympic Hall of Fame

In June 2022, Lindsey Vonn joined eight other athletes and became part of the U.S Olympic and Paralympic Hall of Fame. Olympic legends like Michael Phelps, Mia Hamm, Michelle Kwan, and others were also part of the class of 2022. Lindsey Vonn is one of the greatest snowboarders in history with three Olympic medals and 82 world cup podium finishes.
