Although the fantastic video went viral online, a section of social media shot massive backlash against her. Trollers assumed that Vonn threw the Red Bull can into the sea, littering the water body. However, the skier did not hold herself back and clarified the misconception on social media.

On May 30, Vonn took to her Instagram to clap back at the people who misconstrued her activity in the sea. The skier expressed her disappointment at the allegations and explained what she exactly did while surfing.

Last day, Vonn shared a video of her effortlessly wake surfing in the sea. After a few seconds of taking command of the waves, her crew member threw a Red Bull can at her. Vonn opened it and drank a few sips of it, later throwing the can diagonally.
This gesture by Vonn was misinterpreted by netizens. Many jumped into the comment section questioning her actions. A few such comments read, “Nice, but how can you throw the can into the water??? You should be extra careful, what example you give to thousands of people. Very disappointing!” and “Thanks for littering”

However, Vonn decided to defend herself and immediately wrote in the comment section, “Just seeing some comments and to be clear, I threw the can back to the boat to be sure it was thrown away properly. It did NOT go into the water! Come on guys, this conversation is disappointing”
The skier explained that she threw the can back to a friend on the boat to ensure that it did not fall into the sea. Moreover, she also expressed that she was disappointed with how people judged her without knowing the whole story.
