The prodigal daughter awaits her return! In less than a month, the 82-time Ski World Cup winner Lindsey Vonn will make her comeback at the iconic Birds Of Prey racecourse in Beaver Creek. While she’ll only be skiing down the slope as a forerunner, fans will nonetheless be elated to see the 4o-year-old back in her natural habitat. Naturally, Vonn isn’t up for any jibes at the moment as she eyes breaking her retirement after six years.

The skiing icon will be behind her 2024/25 FIS Ski World Cup competition at the super-G races at St. Moritz, Switzerland in late December. And yet, while the skiing community was waiting for her return on the ice with bated breath, skeptical shades weren’t hard to spot either. But the Team USA veteran isn’t one to pay heed to the jibes.

Lindsey Vonn doesn’t have time for negative thoughts

In her Instagram post from November 23, Vonn shared a clip of her warming up for the upcoming rumble. In the accompanying video, the skier can be seen racing down a course and bypassing the flagpoles with her unmissable grace, as Phil Collins’ uplifting In The Air Tonight plays in the background. “I can feel it coming,” the 28x World Cup super-G race winner writes in the caption of the social media update, pondering if the fans are just as excited to watch her return to her home soil. But not all fans might have been so overcome by similar levels of anticipation.

In April this year, Lindey underwent knee replacement surgery. But instead of seeing it as a testament to her growing age, Vonn noted that she felt stronger than ever. Subsequently, her fans were already speculating that something was brewing behind closed doors as the Ski World Cup star shared her intense training regimen. But now, as the moment inches closer in reality, fans and skiers can’t stop thinking if Vonn really has it in her to bag her 83rd World Cup win.

Six-time Olympic medalist gymnast Aly Raisman has also shared her feelings as the world waits to see Vonn’s skiing skills once again in Colorado next month. After the skier made the decision official on social media, the former Team USA gymnast reposted the original IG post with vehement enthusiasm, highlighting how the veterans of a sport still entice their fans. Moreover, this year’s FIS Ski World Cup will be an extra special treat for the USA’s skiing fans, as Vonn will be joined by another alpine legend Mikaela Shiffrin.

Shiffrin, who will be looking for her 100th World Cup victory this season, is also among the folks who can’t wait to see what Lindsey has in store for her comeback. Italian downhill star Sofia Goggia acknowledged. “It would be great to race in the World Cup with my idol.” The 2010 Olympic champ recently revealed that a conversation with tennis legend Roger Federer made her realize that she still had more in her to come out of her retirement.
