USWNT Star Megan Rapinoe has been one of the most legendary soccer players of her generation. Apart from her iconic colored hair, the midfielder has various accolades under her belt. She has been a recipient of the Ballon d’Or Féminin, a World Cup winner, and a champion Olympian. Besides being named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year (2019), Rapinoe recently received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Rapinoe has been equally successful off the field. The soccer star was a primary figure in the fight for equal pay in sports. While the female athletes had to face a lot of political backlash, some male athletes also opposed the proposal.

Megan Rapinoe forced Draymond Green to change his stance
Golden State Warriors’ power forward, Draymond Green, was one athlete to question Megan Rapinoe and her initiative. The ace basketball player once suggested that female athletes should focus on growing their sport rather than focusing on pay. The statement did not sit well with Megan, who came back with a scathing response.
Megan’s powerful reply had Draymond reeling and eventually changed his stance on the issue. The NBA athlete came back with a response where he said he agreed with the cause. Green said, “She said it’s unfortunate that that’s (my) view. I think it’s unfortunate that she thinks it’s unfortunate that that’s my view.” But Draymond quickly clarified the air by saying they want the same outcome. “At the end of the day, what Megan wants and what I want is the same thing.”

Regardless of Rapinoe’s or Green’s way of doing things, Green said, “I’m all for that.” Draymond mentioned he won’t condemn Megan’s comments towards him and is in full support of her as he, too, wants to see it happen.
How the feud began
In March 2021, Draymond posted a series of tweets amid the fight for equal pay led by female athletes. Green alleged that athletes like Sue Bird and Brittney Griner weren’t doing enough work behind the scenes.
The business. Stop allowing them to yell women empowerment for the look. No company grows without funding. Y’all business can grow with the proper funding and story telling. Make these huge companies commit money to y’all cause. That’s empowering! Or don’t yell women empowerment
— Draymond Green (@Money23Green) March 27, 2021

Green suggested that instead of “complaining,” the WNBA stars should come up with a plan of action. He said the female athletes should stop companies from using them as a face for women empowerment and not bring any revenue. Green wrote that if the athletes would continue to only demand money and not take any other steps, the request would keep “falling on deaf ears.” He urged them to change the way business was done in the female sports section. “The people that can change it will keep saying, ‘The revenue isn’t there.'” Rapinoe did not welcome the statements and asked Draymond what he thought they had been doing.
