Let’s take a stroll down memory lane to October 2023. And a powerhouse in the Olympics realm was honored with the prestigious Olympic Order. It is the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) highest accolade—for a true titan in the world of the Olympics. Well-known for his giant strides in the Olympic Movement, he also received the EOC Order of Merit. This happened during the 52nd General Assembly of the EOC in Istanbul.
Fast-forward to the glittering moment in Mumbai. The IOC President Thomas Bach himself presented the award to Andrzej Krasnicki. This was for his outstanding contribution to the development of sports in Poland with the incredible success of the 2023 European Games in Krakow and the Malopolska region. But as we move to 2025, the Olympics family might have just turned a rather sad note.
A heavy-hearted announcement came from WADA’s official X account on January 10, leaving fans and athletes alike shaken. The post shared, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Andrzej Kraśnicki, WADA Foundation Board Member and long-serving President of the Polish Olympic Committee. His remarkable dedication and contribution to sport will always be remembered. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time.”
