“Dude Was on a Heater”: Surfing’s Ultimate Six Man Heat Courtesy None Other Than 11x Champ Kelly Slater Himself

Kelly Slater is one of the greatest surfers in the world. He entered the surfing industry very young and eventually gained huge recognition. Soon, Slater became the 11-time champion in the World Surfing League, which increased his fan following drastically. Moreover, ever since he became famous, there are multiple aspects that fans wish to know about him. Recently, he answered a very interesting question.

50-year-old Slater began his surfing journey at the age of five. He grew up near the sea, so it was quick for him to pick up surfing techniques. Soon he started to prove his surfing talent by winning the age division championships at ten. Later, he also participated in age division championships in the United States and other amateur competitions.

Kelly Slater shared his core team

Surfing competitions work with two to four heat, which indicates groups of people who compete against each other to score the highest total wave. It eventually directs the points scored by the surfers individually.

During an Instagram questionnaire session, a fan asked to reveal the names of six surfers from any era whom Slater would like to be in a heat with him. He stated:

MR in 1980 or so for his precision and consistency. Curren in around ’86, when he seemed untouchable and, to me, was the perfect blend of speed, style, and power. Occy at the Country Feeling classic at J-Bay when he was 17. Nobody on earth ever matched that backhand attack relative to other surfers in the world.”

He also added:

“Shane Dorian at Jaws, maybe 3 to 5 years ago. Andy in 2002-2004. Dude was on a heater. Next-level desire and amp combined with relentless skill. John John anytime in the past 5 years. Send location. That would make a 7-man heat, but they made an extra spot for Buttons at Pipe back in the day, so we’ll go with a 7-man heat.”

Kelly Slater began professional surfing in 1990. Initially, he struggled in his first two years. Later, he picked up the momentum and rose like a true star.

What did Kelly do with his first surfboard?

Kelly’s first surfboard was a 5’2” thruster with an airbrush of Jaws at the bottom. The famous Salick brothers designed the surfboard, which was very special to Kelly.

However, his dad sold it. In the interview, Kelly revealed that he would do anything to get the surfboard back. The surfer is 50 and has no plans to retire. He is rooting to appear in the sports for more years ahead.
