American surfing legend Laird Hamilton and his pro-volleyball player wife Gabrielle Reece are the ultimate couple goals in the sports world. The lovely couple, who have been married for 25 years, is considered one of the most powerful sports pairs. Although the couple doesn’t have a cliched love story, they have been open about all the ups and downs in their marriage life.

Both are star athletes and dominate their respective sports. Once, the big wave surfer revealed the secret to their long and beautiful marriage.

Laird Hamilton has immense respect for his “alpha” wife

In 2020, Hamilton was featured on the Rich Roll podcast, where he discussed his legendary surfing career, business, and his famous wife, Gabrielle Reece. During the candid chat, the legendary surfer discussed his relationship with Reece.

He explained how the two had survived their long marriage, even after facing many obstacles. “You know, I have a ton of respect for Gabby as a person, and then as a woman, and as a mom, and as you know, just all of her as a person,” Hamilton confessed while talking about his wife.

But, the surfer also believed no other men would have survived with Reece because of her strong and smart personality. Laird also stated, “I don’t think that just any guy could be with Gabby. I mean, men have a hard time sometimes with women that are strong, because they are just insecure.” The surfer just stated facts and admitted that Reece was the “alpha” in their relationship.

Hamilton also disclosed that he had immense respect for his famous volleyball player wife. In other words, the Waterman would not have it any other way. “I don’t think I would be able to respect her if she wasn’t [alpha]. Yeah, if she didn’t have that, I would be, it would, I mean I would respect her, but it wouldn’t be the same like I do,” confessed Hamilton.

Hamilton and Reece go bare for a shoot

In 2015, Hamilton joined his fellow surfers, Kelly Slater and Coco Ho, for the ESPN magazine’s famous Body Issue saga. However, the big-wave surfer’s shoot was the most talked about among the three because his athlete wife Reece had also joined her husband for the naked shoot.

In fact, once the volleyball player had revealed that, she had convinced her husband to get out of his comfort zone and agree to the iconic photoshoot.

And like Hamilton had said in his earlier interview, Reece’s dominant personality persuaded the surfer to say “yes” to the daring shoot.
