For John John Florence, surfing championships seem to be another day piercing through the waves, creating history. The 31-year-old pro surfer comes from a family where surfing calls for just another routine exercise. Among John John’s brothers, Nathan Florence is already way up to count his name among the likes of surfing legends. On the other hand, Ivan Florence’s extraordinary poise and calmness are slowly making him bigger than just another Hawaiian surfer.

On that note, this year’s Vans Pipe Masters occasion was a proper sublimation of those brotherly notes. The second weekend of this December kicked off the surfing title run. However, John John Florence didn’t mind brandishing his surfing best for bagging another glory. 

John John Florence whips another surfing Pipe Masters 

December 12, 2023, ended on a high note for John John Florence as he saw himself earning the Vans Pipe Masters. But this time, success might taste sweeter to him for keeping himself thoroughly better than others in the top waves. Overall, his surfing point touched 68.90. That remained well above the young surfing phenom, Makana Pang’s 61.60 outing in the title. But it was sheer mastery from John who came in the top position whereas his brother, Nathan claimed the ninth one. 

For Ivan Florence, his calmness couldn’t win over the high waves that could unsettle the best in the days. He had to accept the defeat with a demotivated 44.40. However, that couldn’t despair the Florence brothers since the wake of the title run. The legend of John John Florence had some of his predictions since the outing. “The plan is that I’m gonna win, Ivan’s gonna get second and Nathan’s gonna get third,” he claimed to a media agency. That felt like another sibling rivalry at its sprawling best. 

The ‘familiar’ effect 

Since the heat position of the Vans title, the Florence brothers intentionally tried to nettle them in a single line. Even Nathan agreed to that by claiming, “Ivan, John, and myself are all in one heat due to the random draw. We strategized to do it, wasn’t sure because it is a random draw. But it worked out and we’re all in one heat”.

However, with this win, John John Florence would start his 2024 surfing season with high confidence. But Paris Olympics endeavor might come as his other love affair. His already proven prowess in the shallow water of Teahupo’o will ultimately organize the Olympics 2024 surfing contention.
