Paris Olympics 2024: Teen Surfer Aims for Two-Sport Stardom at Summer Games

The Olympics have recently been incorporating several new sports into its fold. This has led to a boost in their popularity, resulting in many people starting to learn them competitively as well. However, a young girl has already mastered two of these neo-Olympic sports. Moreover, she will also be participating in both of them at the Paris Olympics.

This 15-year-old passionate phenom is an exceptional neo-sport athlete who aces the stage with both skateboarding as well as surfing.The Olympic bronze medalist seeks to cross another sporting milestone and become a two-sport athlete. In fact, a recent social media upload saw her sharing the motivation behind her unique goal.

The Olympics added a new post on Instagram with the caption, Sky, skate, and Sea! 🌊. The #Tokyo2020 skateboard medallist has a dream and she’s going for it – to be a two-sport Olympian at #Paris2024! Check out the full interview on Olympics.com…▶️.” The post carried a video that showcased her Olympic-level skillset in both skateboarding and surfing.

Speaking about what drives her, Brown said, “When I hear, ‘You can’t do it’, it puts a fire in my heart. It makes you want to prove them wrong, and prove them wrong hard. Surfing and skating, qualifying for both has been a big dream of mine, and I know that’s a big dream, but that’s what I love to do.” While the Great Britain athlete won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, she didn’t want to choose between two of her loved sports this time.

The Olympian said, “I love to surf, I love to skate. To qualify for both, it is a big goal, but I believe in myself, and I’m going to try my best.” However, this will be a challenging Olympic dream to fulfill. Both surfing and skateboarding are sports where judges award points to athletes based on their judgment. Thus, Brown will have to push through for perfection, something she paid a heavy price for last time.

When the young virtuoso faced a massive setback before her maiden Olympics

Sky Brown had her sights set on the skateboarding gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. However, she suffered an accident while training. At the age of 13, she had a fractured skull and a broken left wrist while practicing on a half-pipe only weeks before she was set to make Olympic history.

After recovering in time to participate, she attempted a kickflip indy twice in the final but failed both times, resulting in her finishing in fourth place before her last run. Brown excelled under pressure instead of succumbing to it. Demonstrating exceptional maturity and patience, she successfully executed the trick in her last attempt, securing her bronze. Will her resilience make her surpass every limit at the Paris Olympics as well?
