Tremors Suffered by Cape Town Family as Surfing Enthusiast Passes Away Post Recent Trip

It’s the thrill and the adrenaline rush that keeps surfers coming back for more. While surfing is one of the most exhilarating sports out there, it also comes with its fair share of dangers that can cast a long shadow over the “fun” veneer its nestled in. “Comes with the territory” has never more imbued fear in peoples’ hearts such as this recent incident that transpired. In a similar turn of events, tourists and vacationers have been left horrified after a surfer met with an unfortunate end in Cape Town, South Africa.

On January 15, despite extensive efforts from the present lifeguards, some disconcerting news befell one such unlucky Cape Town residents. With multiple freak accidents that have recently sent ripples across the surfing community, this only plunges fans of the sport into deeper despair.

According to a news website, during the afternoon at Seal Point, St Francis Bay, some surfers noticed one of their colleagues seemed to be in trouble. After rushing the man to the shore, the surfers raised an alarm, to which multiple emergency groups promptly responded. The NSRI St Francis Bay station commander, Sarah Smith, said that NSRI medics, rescue swimmers, and others arrived on the scene to discover Kouga lifeguards had already begun assisting the deceased man.

Despite CPR efforts from both the lifeguards and general members of the public, the 30-year-old male couldn’t be resuscitated. SAPS’s Colonel Priscilla Naidu also issued a statement commending the public’s response to the scene and paid her regards to the deceased man’s family and close ones. After primary medical assistance, the man was taken to the Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

For necessary reasons, the local police have an inquest docket to conclude the reason behind the man’s death. With no visible injuries observed on the man’s body, the final conclusions are yet to be deduced and brainstormed. This harrowing incident isn’t the first of its kind though and lives have been claimed on the daily at these wave spots.

Accidents rocking the community

With so many surfing-related accidents ravaging the community in recent times, requests for more safety measures have become sacrosanct. While the likes of Kelly Slater have come forward to request fans to do their part in helping out fellow surfers, other more ambitious projects promise to ensure a safer environment for surfers across the country.

Along with accidents from surfing have risen significantly, the recent series of shark attacks has also left fans blood curdled. News surfaced recently of a child being a victim of a shark attack in the Bahamas and raised questions about public policies to safeguard the cohabitation of humans and marine life.
