Sports are often used as a platform to generate awareness of multiple sociological issues. However, sometimes these awareness campaigns can appear to be a bit out of the box. A similar awareness program has been taken by John Fulton, who dresses like Santa Claus and is popularly known as Surfing Santa. This group has been surfing in the Niagara Rivers since 1985 to raise awareness about different issues.

A campaign to collect undies
This year Surfing Santa has partnered with a local charitable organization, The Toolbox Niagara. It aims to provide a better life to the marginalized people living in Niagara through multiple campaigns. The community in Fort Erie is collecting underwears for those in need this holiday season. The initiative aims to provide clean and comfortable undergarments to those who may not have access to them.

The campaign will run throughout the holiday season and seeks to raise awareness about the importance of underwear as a basic necessity. Inability to access clean and comfortable underwears can have a significant impact on their physical and emotional well-being.

“A lot of the charities won’t even ask for underwear because it’s out of sight, out of mind. People just seem a little bit uncomfortable with undergarments so I’m making that the focus. We’ve always tried to focus on the unidentified need”, Fulton told Thorold Today.

The organization has set up some collection wings at the Thorold fire station one and four. There will be friendly competitions among the groups in collecting them. The organization believes that everyone deserves to have access to clean and comfortable underwear. This campaign is an opportunity for the community to come together and make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling. However, this wasn’t his first campaign this year.

The aim of his struggle was to let people know about the vulnerability of the weaker section. He was successful in his venture as the coldest Night Of The Year released around $150, 000 for the homeless. Fulton has a long history of such achievements and continues to make the surfing community proud.
