The Doha 2024 World Aquatic Championship came close to chasing the TYR Pro Swim Series, which happened in Knoxville this year. There, a bunch of supernatural swimmers participated in their university gowns. So ultimately, Michael Andrew had to face Shaine Casas in the 100m fly event. Despite the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist having the upper hand on Casas previously, this time, the 24-year-old swimmer had better timing. A disheartened Andrew could only vow to come back stronger. 

Ultimately, the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships brought another platform for both swimmers to try their flippers again. As a result, the American swimmers almost ignored everyone in the pool on Sunday night. 

The Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships returns with a familiar feud

In the Doha World Aquatics Championships, US swimmer Michael Andrew started his Olympic year in a lofty tone. However, from the multiple regular events Michael Andrew tries in the water, this time the 50m butterfly semifinal earned him glory. At an affirmative pace, the American prowess kept his high run from the mid-pool. Meanwhile, another strong American athlete, Shaine Casas, was also in the pool. But unlike TYR Pro Swim Series 2024, he couldn’t outpace his American counterpart.

Eventually, the race ended with Andrew taking 22.94 to touch the finish line. Casas remained in the third position at 23.22. But after the conclusion of all the heats, both the American swimmers entered the final. The X-handle of US Swimming News added the result in the caption as, “Advancing to Finals: 1. Michael Andrew, 22.94 7. Shaine Casas, 23.22”.

Ultimately, another contender Baek Chul remained just 0.02 seconds short of Casas to give a tied result. But eventually, in the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships, Andrew and Casas will receive a last chance in the 50m fly event to try their fight. But in the short pool, Michael Andrew already has a better showcase of achievements. In the 2018 FINA Swimming World Cup, the Olympic champion had won the silver medal with a timing of 22.32.

On the other hand, the US Open Swimming Championship medalist had pulled his best attempt with the timing of 22.57 in the 2022 edition of the FINA World Cup. So now, to defeat the bunch, including Andrew, Shaine Casas, would need an extraordinary feat. Meanwhile, the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships wouldn’t mind such stellar competition in the pool once again.
