101-year-old Maurine Kornfeld is a living example of the quote, ‘Age is just a number.’ She was 60 when she took swimming seriously and eventually became America’s most decorated Masters swimmer. Popularly known as the “Mighty Mo,” Kornfeld recently stunned the swimming world by unlocking another achievement at the 2023 Spring National Championship.
On May 1, the official Twitter page of US Masters Swimming shared a proud video of Maurine Kornfeld congratulating her for her achievement at the recent championship in California. Nevertheless, netizens expressed their amazement in the video recognizing her impeccable aquatic prowess.

The official page on Twitter shared a video of the 101-year-old granny swimming in backstroke in a pool. Steadily, she reached the endpoint unlocking her great achievement.
The caption announced that Maurine Kornfeld finished her journey at the Spring National championship with 100 backstroke. More shockingly, the 101-year-old achieved this incredible feat only in 3:33.16. It congratulated Kornfeld with a heartfelt message in the caption. The post read, “Way to go, Mighty Mo! “Mighty Mo” began swimming after her retirement as a social worker at 60. Although she learned swimming while growing up in Great Falls, Montana, Kornfeld was not fond of it. However, when she got back to the sport, she began learning it with the Masters’ team at the Glendale, California YMCA.
Maurine Kornfeld was 90 years old when she made her first world record. At the FINA Masters World Championships (2017) in Budapest, she was the oldest female swimmer to set a new World Record in the 800m freestyle in the 95-99 age group. Moreover, in her 31 years of competitive swimming, Kornfeld has participated four times at the FINA Masters World Championships, winning 14 gold and four silver medals.
