“I Really Wanted to Escort Travis Pastrana”: Michael Phelps Was the First Choice for Wife Nicole Johnson to Be with at Their First Encounter

Michael Phelps needs no formal introduction in the world of sports. Even though it’s been years since he left the pool, the achievements that he had are a milestone. A living legend, Michael now loves spending time with family. The “Flying Fish” met the love of his life at the ESPYs event. While many Phelps fan thinks that it was love at first sight, the story stands different!

Nicole aspired to become Formula One racing correspondent. So, when she was assigned to usher the Swimming GOAT at the event, she was not thrilled for apparent reasons.

Phelps’ wife was not happy

Phelps was to present an award to ace racer Danica Patrick. He had no clue that the event would be changing the track of his life forever. For him, it was any regular sporting event, but for Nicole, it was perhaps a future prospect. Taking the event as a stepping stone, Nicole added, “I really wanted to escort Travis Pastrana.”

But as luck would have it, she ended up being Phelps’ guide for the day. To Nicole’s surprise, the “two just completely hit it off,” Before they could even realize a few days after the event, they were a “couple.”

As Phelps said, “We have been through a lot.” It was perhaps their struggles that helped them connect at a deeper level and “made each other laugh.”

Michael Phelps loves his kids unconditionally

Coming from a broken family, Phelps missed a substantial part of his early years with his dad. Unlike most, he does not have an ideal relationship with his dad. However, he worked on his relationship with his father. As Nicole said, “Phelps’ rapprochement with his father” prepared him to embrace the next phase of his life.

Reportedly, when Nicole revealed she was expecting, Phelps was over the moon. He was even more excited than Nicole. Welcoming his son Boomer, Phelps started with the most exciting phase of his non-swimming life. The Phelps couple eventually welcomed three sons together.
