Before coming to the 2024 SEC Championship, Arabella ‘Bella’ Sims’s coaching staffers took pivotal measures to increase her Paris Olympics’ 2024 preparation. Previously, the Tokyo Olympics silver medalist had already backed off from the 2024 Doha Aquatics Championships. So, before locking horns in the Paris Olympics swimming trial, Bella Sims could have only two major contests to try out her prowess against the budding swimmers. Among those two chances, the 2024 SEC Championship became the primary one. So, her coaches in the Florida Gators restricted her events in the tournament.

In a reformed roster, the 18-year-old swimmer raided the swimming pool in 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, and the 400 medley-relay events. Eventually, the results from those events came out to be extraordinary.

Bella Sims is seeking the Gators’ luminary position

On Friday in the 2024 SEC Championship, Florida Gators usurped six swimming records in the James E. Martin Aquatic Center. Among those records, Bella Sims earned her share of the three records. In both the 200 butterfly and 100 backstroke, she decimated the school records and the SEC records. Later, in the 200 free event, the Olympic medalist created the school record. Eventually, the Florida Gators Swim & Dive IG handle celebrated the occasion by penning, “Bella S(𝗪)ims [emoji] She now owns the SEC record, the SEC Meet record & the school record!”

Among such trailblazing earnings before the Paris Olympics 2024, the Nevada native might keep the 200 butterfly record closer to her heart. Her 1:51.45 timing on Friday humbled Gators’ legend Jemma Lowe’s clocking set 15 years ago. Moreover, Bella’s timing in 200 fly dissipated the SEC Meet record as well, set by Riley Gaines two years ago. Meanwhile, that feat brought a special happy place for her, as she claimed after the events.

“200 fly is a hard event, but it is definitely my favorite event. I was just focused on staying relaxed,” Bella Sims’s relieved voice outpoured. In the past, the 200m fly event showcased the swimmer’s pragmatic moments at its best. In the 2022 World Championship, the national relay team member earned her personal best, giving a slew of challenges to others. In the same year, Bella Sims roughed her opposition up again in the Winter Jr Championship by improving her clocking.

Her Friday timing in the 200 fly event almost touched that 2022 feat. So a late omission from the 500 free event proved to be beneficial for the elite swimmer. Now, the Paris Olympics 2024 might witness Bella Sims taking her best chance at her favorite event.
