Pop Star Turned Swimmer, Cody Simpson Plays Victory Strings to Clinch Silver at Swimming World Cup 2023

Pop singer Cody Simpson has found worldwide acclaim for his musical talents, but he has more in his repertoire. The Australian celeb is also a talented swimmer and is on a mission to become one of the greatest legends in the sport. This would require an Olympic gold medal which would directly canonize him in the Swimming Hall of Fame. His path to Paris leads through Greece, where the Swimming World Cup is being held.

The second leg of the World Cup began on October 13 and will end today after the finals in the evening. The Swimming World Cup 2023 is one of the qualifying events for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Naturally, Cody Simpson could not resist the temptation and entered the competition on behalf of his home country, Australia. Recently, the popstar-cum-singer took a huge leap towards this ultimate goal.

After a successful race on the second day of the Athens meet, Cody Simpson celebrated his swimming achievement with his 5.2 million followers. He posted a video of the race on Instagram with the words, “Athens World Cup 🥈 Cool night racing some incredible fellas. Garnering experience on the international stage and my first time on a podium. Finding some flow and was able to hit my fastest unshaved/unrested 100m butterfly of my career so far, only a few tenths off of my best. I am radically and unreservedly grateful for this journey”. On October 13, he began the competition on a high note and carried the momentum to the finale.

Cody Simpson had a successful heat competing against American ace Michael Andrew in the 100-meter butterfly. He recorded 52.13 seconds and made the overall leaderboard in second place. His American rival Michael Andrew who has had a successful campaign so far in Europe posted 52.11 seconds. In the finals, both tied for the silver with a time of 51.92 while South Africa’s Matthew Sates took the gold. Regardless of this loss of gold, Cody Simpson has had a marvelous season in 2023.

Cody Simpson’s amazing 2023-24 season

The 26-year-old pop star has delivered many hit performances in the pools as well. The biggest wins of his swimming career came in the 2023 Short-Course Australian Championships. He earned two gold medals and one silver to show as examples of his athletic achievements. His coach David Salo at the University of Southern California’s Trojan Swim Elite team believes Simpson has a unique penchant for fast swimming and can excel in the sport. With his performance in the Swimming World Cup 2023, he has proven himself right.

Cody Simpson has revealed that he will not participate in the Short-Course Australian Championships anymore. Many believed this was the end of his swimming career and that he would return to music. However, he is not ready to hang the proverbial towel just yet. He wants to add the word Olympian into his biography before he can rest easy.
