“She Is a Beast”: US Swimming Sensation Kate Douglass Breaks Yet Another NCAA Record

She started out as a swimming prodigy, but Kate Douglass is now becoming the master of her domain. Just days after breaking her own record at the 200-yard breaststroke competition at NCAA, Douglass has successfully stamped her name into other disciplines. While the 200-yard breaststroke has been her forte, she is now showing her dominance in other races as well. And now fans have taken notice of her prowess.

With eight championships (five individual and three relays) in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) so far, Douglass became a popular swimming personality, all at the age of 21. Making a case for herself as a swimming star, she has now created yet another record just weeks after her previous record in the 200-yard breaststroke.

“KATE DOUGLASS. NEW NCAA RECORD. 48.84 IN THE 100 BUTTERFLY”, wrote Kyle Sockwell. Douglass currently holds the top 3 ranks in the fastest-to-finish 200-yard breaststroke. Her numbers are at 2:02:19 and 2:01:87, and most recently in February 2023, she bettered with 2:01:43. Fans are now starting to see her dominance in butterfly as well. Here’s how they reacted:

Just last March, Douglass notched up a win at the 100-yard butterfly with an American record of 49.04 seconds. She won an extremely close race with Tori Huske and Maggie Mac Neil then. Most recently, after finishing the race in Virginia at a staggering speed in just 48.04 seconds, Douglass and Gretchen Walsh looked at the camera and gave a priceless reaction. Her early prowess in the swimming at NCAA also gave her a call for Tokyo Olympics 2021.

Back in 2021, team USA announced their women’s squads for freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, and relay swimming teams. Douglass, who holds the American record in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly (previously as well), was part of the team in the 200 Individual Medley. Not only did she participate, but she also brought home a bronze medal at the same event in her debut appearance at the Olympics.

The manner in which Douglass has been breaking every record in swimming, be it others or her own, the 21-year-old will look to continue her prowess at the 2024 Paris Olympics next year.
