Months away from the 2024 Paris Olympics, America’s contention is slowly taking shape. For the longest time, Michael Phelps was the torch-bearer for the national swimming program at the big event. Even in the zeitgeist of the Baltimore Bullet’s retirement, no rival team could jinx the gold-winning streak in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay. However, the women’s relay team encountered the biggest upset in the pool’s history.
Cate Campbell, joined by her sister, Bronte Campbell, alongside Emma McKeon and Meg Harris, pulled a stupendous victory. Not only did they win the gold medal, but they also created the world record. Now, in a teasing update, Cate Campbell has fervently opposed the U.S.’s all-encompassing mastery over the swimming realm.

With the 2024 Paris Olympics inching closer every day, the record books have come under inspection. In such a context, Swim Swam published one of their Swimming Stats taking the “MOST DECORATED SWIMMERS AT THE OLYMPICS IN RELAY EVENTS” into account. To create the tier list, they graded each swimming star on the basis of their gold, silver, and bronze medals. The list primarily consisted of U.S. swimming titans, starting with Michael Phelps, who had a total of 12 Olympic medals in the relay event. The only exception to the otherwise clean sweep was Cate Campbell, who took the number 8th spot on the list. However, not feeling any demureness at the milieu, Campbell threw a sucker punch at America’s sides in an IG story update.

Using a picture of the Swimming Stats as the basis for her show of disdain, Cate Campbell wrote a bold caption. “Someone had to stop the USA from clean-sweeping this stat” was the summation of her message. Although, this was not the first time that the Australian legend has made snide remarks about Team USA.

Cate Campbell’s rivalry with the U.S.
Cate Campbell deliberately missed the World Swimming Championships in 2023 to prepare for her fifth Olympics. But that did not prevent her voice echoing within the arena in Fukuoka. Calling the Yankees “pathetic sore losers,” the Aussie champion reveled in the victories of her compatriots. However, she levied certain uncalled-for invectives that added a bitter note to the friendly rivalry.

In an NBC exclusive, Campbell said, “Australia coming out on top of the world is one thing, but it is just so much sweeter beating America. The first night of competition, we did not have to hear ‘Star Spangled Banner’ ring out through the stadium. I cannot tell you how happy that made me”. Now, she is preparing to back those heavy words with her swimming prowess in Paris.
