Before the Paris Olympics 2024 takes the reins of the swimming world, all eyes are on the TYR Pro Series 2024. The unbelievable lineup boasts of swimming talents with a resume of extraordinary feats to their name. In this trot, spectators expect solid competition at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Arena. Among the cavalcade of swimmers arriving for the Knoxville occasion is Michael Andrew, who was the source of significant excitement during the 2023 US Swimming Championship.

Michael Andrew’s slow climb to the top of the swimming realm began long before he became the 2020 Olympic gold medalist. Interestingly, it was the 2019 TYR Pro Swim Series that catapulted the swimming virtuoso to a rarified hemisphere of elite athletes.

During the Richmond episode of the 2019 TYR Pro Swim Series, Michael Andrew was part of an elite squad of finalists. The swimming wizard cast a strong spell over the spectators, even in the presence of stalwarts such as Caeleb Dressel, Katie Ledecky, and Simone Manuel. The roaring crowds claimed him as their heroic champion as he effortlessly settled the fourth fastest time in the 200 IM. Swimming legend Chase Kalisz, who had established his IM doctrine in the last two years, could not catch up to Andrew’s time of 1:57.49. He also won the 50m breaststroke in Richmond and moved on to Des Moines to win the 100m backstroke and 50m free. However, as per USA Swimming records, his greatest triumphs came on the heels of an embarrassing loss.

Michael Andrew needed a big win after his disastrous 19th-place finish at the 2019 World Championships. The 2020 TYR Pro Swim Series at Des Moines was the perfect opportunity for this, and he pulled a stupendous victory at the 100-meter breaststroke finals. He dropped his personal best times in the 100m breaststroke, 200m IM, and 100m butterfly—similar accolades followed in the next TYR Pro Series campaign for the swimming legend.

Michael Andrew’s continued dominance in the pool

At the 2021 TYR Pro Swim Series in Indianapolis, Michael Andrew set new records in the 100m breaststroke (58.67), 100m butterfly (50.80), and 200m individual medley (1:56.84). These victories earned him the “Ultra Swim Swimmer of the Month” title from SwimSwam. In 2022, Michael Andrew almost fell Adam Peaty’s 100m breaststroke Pro Swim Series record with a swim time of 59.05.

In 2023, Michael Andrew faced an unsurmountable challenge from Nic Fink. The defending breaststroke champion lost both the 50m and 100m titles to the 30-year-old electrical engineer. In the 100m breaststroke battle, the win for Fink came at a 0.01 margin. The 2024 TYR Pro Series starts on January 11, when Michael Andrew will attempt to recapture his lost title again.
