After announcing his comeback in swimming in 2019, Cody Simpson had one dream, to contest in the Olympics. Hoping to boost his rankings ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics, Simpson participated in the 2023 Australian Swimming Championships. In these championships, Simpson had to face fierce competition from other competitors like Matthew Temple, Ben Armbruster, and Jesse Coleman.

Performing in this Championship after finishing fifth at the Common Wealth Games, Simpson was better prepared this time. Swimming with confident strokes, Simpson tried his best in the 100 m butterfly race finals held on 19th April 2023. However, despite being among the top 10 swimmers in this championship, Simpson’s efforts fell short. So what happened in this race?

Simpson secured the eighth rank in the 100 m butterfly finale.? He completed this race was 53.48 seconds as reported by newsfeed Nine.com. This timing was slower than his competitor Matthew Temple who finished the race in 51.49 seconds.

This performance was surprisingly a notch lower than his performance at the 2022 Australian Swimming Championships in which he completed the 100m butterfly prelims in 51.72 seconds. Speaking of the tough competition he recently faced, Simpson opined, “I think it’s very exciting.”

Further, he indicated that this competition will help him to be aware of his challenges and remain alert. Later, he also gave credit to Jesse Coleman and Ben Armbruster for their performances. Though Simpson has publicly portrayed himself to be calm after the event, the reality is that Simpson needs to think on his feet to be a part of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
