The 2023 Swimming World Cup has already kicked off and has been doing the rounds for the past few weeks. The first leg of the three meet event is already over, and now the spotlight will be shifted to the second leg, which is Greece, Athens. Greece boasts a rich tradition of hosting multi-sport events, and it also holds the distinction of being the inaugural host of the modern Olympic Games in 1896.

Now the swimmers will be all girded for the Greek event, as it is also going to be the perfect platform to give their Paris Olympics preparations the final touches. With anticipation mounting, Greece is poised to etch its name in the annals of history as it hosts this prestigious swimming event.

History in the making for the swimming world

As per the reports from World Aquatics, this is going to be the first time ever that Greece will be hosting a swimming World Cup event. It will also mark the return of a prominent global event to the southeast European country. The competition is scheduled to start on Friday, October 13th, and conclude on October 15th. All three meets hold their own significance, as they are going to be the deciding factors for the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The competitors for the Greek leg have also been revealed, and it is going to be a hell of a ride for both the fans and the athletes, as there are going to be some thrilling matchups on Friday. Some of the nations, like Australia and China, will be participating with their own rosters, which will include the likes of Zhang Yufei and Qin Haiyang for China, while Cate Campbell and Bronte Campbell will be leading the pack for Australia. Other nations have also disclosed their teams, but it’s the United States that stands out with a lineup featuring several prominent athletes to watch.

The new names to look out for

Team United States has added several new names for the Greek event, which includes Gabe Anagnoson, Taylor McCoy, Llew Ladomirak, Cole Ballard, Tran Doan, etc. joining the team. Other nations that will be entering the second leg with all the guns blazing will be South Africa, which will land in Athens with Ryan Coetzee and Pieter Coetze, who are known for their sheer speed.
