Michael Phelps may have retired professionally, but he still continues to rule the pool like no other. Winning 28 Olympic medals, he is undeniably the Olympic GOAT. However, his road to success was never easy. It’s just not his professional hardships but also his personal experience that impacted him greatly.

Phelps was just nine years old when his parents divorced. While the young boy and his two sisters stayed back with his mother, Debbie, his father moved out. With time his relationship with his father grew distant! Such was the condition that he had no clue what his father was doing. Thus, when he saw significant development in his father’s life, Phelps was left stunned!

Phelps did not know how to react 

Living separately from his father from a young age, he was hardly aware of how his father’s life. Speaking on the same in his book, “Beneath The Surface,” he writes about his father’s relation. Having separated from Debbie, Fred Phelps started dating Jackie.

As ‘The Flying Fish’ says, he was not close to women his father was dating. Talking about one particular incident, Phelps said, “She was with my dad that day.” Narrating further, the legend revealed that his dad followed him to the bathroom. There, his father reached out to him, saying, “Hey, look what I got.”
