As day 2 of the 2023 US Open Swimming Championships commenced, Kate Douglass took center stage by clinching not one but two golds. She started her evening by dominating the 200m IM and carried forward her winning spree with 50m freestyle

After making it to the list of 30 under-30 in Forbes, Douglass nabbed two golds at the US Open Simming Championships. Following her golden victory in the 200m Individual Medley, she once again left behind her counterparts in her wake to clinch another gold in the 50m freestyle.

Kate Douglass clinches another gold in the US Open Swimming Championship

The American swimmer jumped into the water with her eyes set on the prize. She rushed to the finish line like a bullet in water. Just like her previous performance in the 200 IM, the skills she showcased in the 50m freestyle were incredible. Leaving behind Torri Huske and Abbey Weitzeil, Douglass gracefully grabbed the title of the 50m freestyle. Interestingly, after winning her first gold in 200m IM, she won her 2nd gold just 24 minutes after her incredible spree.

The NBC Olympics and Paralympics took to their X account to post a clip of the event. The caption carried, “2 wins. 2 championship records. 24 MINUTES APART“. They further added, “Kate Douglass is having herself a night at the #ToyotaUSOpen“. Douglass stood atop the podium by recording the timeframe of 24.38 in the 50m freestyle.

Following Douglass in the top-3 roster were Torri Huske and Abbey Weitzeil with a tie in the second position. Both Huske and Weitzeil grabbed silver with a time of 24.41. Douglass couldn’t contain the excitement and was in disbelief after two gold-winning performances. She expressed, “I am shocked“. Not just the performance in 50m free, but her ideal win in the 200IM also deserved a big round of applause.

The women’s 200m IM was a star-studded affair with Kate Douglass delivering a staunch performance on day 2 of the event. After facing a tight race with Alex Walsh, she cruised to the 2oom IM title by touching the wall in 2:08.46. Walsh, on the other hand, took home silver by clocking a time of 2:08.96.
