Yusra Mardini: from wars to limelight

Rightly being said by Yusra, “Sometimes your purpose in life is way bigger than you can ever imagine,” to HarperBazaar. com. She knew little about her career when she played international championships representing her country. Yusra has reached one of the notable milestones of her life as she was featured in the Netflix exclusive in 2022 and is now in the multi-award winning luxury lifestyle magazine of Financial Times, the HTSI.

However, her swimming journey to the Olympics started when she left Syria in 2015. “My sister and I decided to leave Syria in order to find safety in Germany in 2015. It may sound crazy but my first priority upon arriving in Germany was to find a swimming pool so I could resume my training.” She then became a part of the Elite Schools of Sports in Berlin. This paved the way for her to compete at the Rio Olympics with the first-ever Refugees Olympics Team. After that, there was no looking back.

However, Yusra is still gaining recognition worldwide, not for her performance in the pool but for her awe-spiring performance in life.
