More than 100 years ago in 1900, the city started its clean-up efforts to make the Seine River swimmable. Now, again in 2023, the officials have started to improve the river quality for next year?s Olympics. According to the reports, the area is under construction of an 88-billion dollar underground overflow basin project that will help in the prevention of such overflows. Most likely, this project will be completed by the 2024 Paris Olympics.?

Last year this swimming competition was held in Parc de La Villette, and this year the first three qualifying races were conducted in, Egypt?s Red Sea?s Soma Bay, Sardinia?s Golfo Arancini in Italy, and then in the Sein River.

In 1900, the sewages and drains overflowed and all the fecal matter bacteria? E.coli and Enterococcus were discharged into the river. Consequently, the area was banned from swimming since 1923 until French President Jacques Chirac promised to improve the quality. Hopefully, the river?s conditions gets better soon before the Olympics, so the world can see the champions competing once again.
