Last month the sports world saw an interesting online spat between long jump athletes Quarnesha Burks and Tara Davis Woodhall. The episode began with Burks celebrating her World No. 1 rank on social media, indicating that her performance speaks for herself. Coming across her statement, 23-year-old Davis challenged her to face off for prize money of $5000. Although the rivals did not immediately fly down to compete against each other then, it seems that the time has arrived now.

On Sunday, both athletes are set to face off at the 2023 Continental Tour Gold in Bermuda. On May 17, the official Twitter page of World Athletics shared an exciting post announcing the much-awaited face-off between Quarnesha Burks and Tara Davis Woodhall. Considering their previous performances, it will be a neck-to-neck clash between the two athletes.

A throwback at the two rival’s performances from the previous championships

Recently, the World Athletics page shared a thrilling banner of rival athletes Quarnesha Burks and Tara Davis announcing the showdown that is set to take place on Sunday. It also added an exciting caption that read, “ There’s a score to settle in Bermuda Better watch out for this #ContinentalTourGold long jump showdown on Sunday.

Burks and Davis have been going neck-to-neck in their respective careers. In 2022, Burks achieved new heights in her career by winning the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene. She created a new personal record for herself, jumping 7.06 meters. Presently, she is preparing to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

On the other hand, Tara Davis won 6th place in the women’s long jump final at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Moreover, this year, she won the national long jumping title at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque with a distance of 6.99 meters. 

Both Davis and Burks are exceptionally talented. However, they are not fond of each other due to unknown reasons. Their highly anticipated clash will surely give a new turn to their rivalry.

Just like them, the track and field world has also seen the rivalry between athletes Sha’Carri Richardson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Since they are rivals, fans were highly awaiting their showdown in 2022 at the Kip Keino Classic. But disappointing the fans, Sha’Carri decided to withdraw her name from the championship. After her exit, rival Shelly told the media that she was not bothered by it. She was focusing on her own performance and the fact that she has other competitors to look forward to.
