Dreams for the 2024 Paris Olympics shattered

In a shocking revelation, Nick Ponzio will not perform at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Recently, Throwers Universe took it to their X and posted a video of him to mark a recent upset for the Italian team. They penned, “It looks like Nick Ponzio will completely miss the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris…his 18-month ban ends on August 27, 2024

Nick had previously taken part in the 2020 Olympic games, but his journey was cut short. He failed to pass the qualifying round. Despite this setback, the dynamic 28-year-old thrower was gearing up for the 2024 Paris Olympics to take redemption. But the tale of his aspirations halted abruptly this time as well. But Why is Nick banned from playing right before the Paris Olympics 2024?

Nick found himself suspended for the next 18 months by the Italian Anti-Doping Agency. Ponzio’s journey to the sidelines began when he missed a series of drug tests scheduled by the authorities. Consequently, these violations of rules and regulations by the authority prompted a rigorous investigation.

Despite reaching out to these authorities with a plea, they failed to acknowledge the reason for his failure to appear for the surprise test on three different occasions. Even though the plea spared him from severe punishment, Nick is now facing an 18-month ban, which also cost him his Paris Olympics dreams.

According to Nick, he missed the test unintentionally and blamed a technical glitch that happened with the app on his phone. In addition, Nick also argued that these malfunctions in his phone prevented him from receiving essential notifications about the surprise tests scheduled by the authorities. However, Nick is not the only athlete banned this week; Italian steeplechase runner, Ahmed Abdelwahed, was suspended from the Athletics Integrity Unity for four years.
